What is Cyberbullying?

“willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices”

Elements:

  • Willful: The behavior has to be deliberate, not accidental.

  • Repeated: Bullying reflects a pattern of behavior, not just one isolated incident.

  • Harm: The target must perceive that harm was inflicted.

  • Computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices: This, of course, is what differentiates cyberbullying from traditional bullying.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE BEING CYBERBULLIED:

1. Tell a parent, teacher, or trusting adult about the bullying – don’t stay silent and hope it will go away – it won’t!

2. Save all posts, texts, pictures, ect. in case of a police report.

3. Delete and block the bully from all social media accounts and if possible your phone.

4. Do NOT respond to any messages or posts from the bully.

5. Use the "report this post/ user" button, to report to the site about the bullying.

6. If the bullying continues, delete your current social media account, and recreate a new. Be careful who you share your new account information with. Share with a small group of trusted friends.

7. Get a new phone number.

8. Despite taking the above listed steps, if the bullying continues, tell a parent to report the bullying to the police. All States have laws against bullying!
